Assignment 1D - Finale

I would say out of all of the elements that made this project what it was, this portion was the most difficult. Sound design is harder than I anticipated. I found it rather difficult to make the photos and the soundscape blend together. I am satisfied with our final film but getting to that point was a riot. I think I listened to it a total of 10 separate times before I even looked through the photos. Overall, I would say that as a duo, Trevor and myself heard Eroto Love Poetry a total of 50 plus times when we worked on it. It’s weird to sit and listen to something multiple times as we did with this project because eventually, it stops becoming a soundscape and nothing really sticks out anymore. This is where I struggled. I listened to it too many times and lost the creative flow. But as I said, I enjoyed the experience and I truly am thrilled the way the final project came out.

Maya Deren was pretty hardcore. I admire the fact that all of her films were silent and that she was very particular about the way her films were presented, which is how it should be. One works hard to create this form of art and it should be respected, and after said artist is gone, one should still honor the wishes made by the filmmaker and screen the film with the upmost respect.

I thought his art was pretty interesting. Honestly, I don't find VR as amazing as it was at first, having used a VR headset many times. Kudos to him for making a living out of it though! Like that's amazing! Especially being as young as he is. I really liked the Johnny Cash video! I admire Cash's work and it was super interesting to see Koblin tackle it with such an art form.

Bela Belazs - Afterthought

It’s really strange to think about sounds and how each one has a specific place, and to think about how much sounds can be manipulated into sounding like something else. In addition to that, how well trained an ear can be. We as humans can distinguish a sound a dog would make from one a cat would make. This article was really fascinating. It made me realize sound isn’t just what we think it is. The ability to hear and recognize sound is a literal gift. I never thought of silence as how Belazs describes it. The idea that silence doesn’t just mean no sound, that minuscule sounds could be categorized as silence. To be honest, being in silence scares me. I hate silence. There’s just something eerie about the ambiance of a room that creeps me out to no end.
