About Me?

Hello! My name is Destiny! I'm from Concord, NC, like to bake, and have an unusual obsession with David Bowie. Provided is a photo, because everyone should gaze upon how amazing this man was.
Also, check out literally one of the most amazing songs he's ever written, Sound and Vision
My love of film started in middle school roundabout with two films: The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Jim Henson's Labyrinth (surprise surprise, right?) As an adolescent, I was usually only exposed to the mainstream films of the summer's blockbuster and whatever Disney films were coming out at the time. It's not like I didn't enjoy them, but they weren't like the greatest movies I have ever experienced. My mom was the one to show me Labyrinth, which happened to be a film she watched when she was younger. I was blown away. The scene that really stuck out to me was the masquerade ball scene. It was so visually beautiful and how they made it so fantasy-like was astonishing, and I was hella jealous of Sarah to be honest...
I stumbled upon The Rocky Horror Picture Show myself and I am so glad I did. I honestly credit that film as my all time favorite and main inspiration for getting into the subject. It was that film that inspired me to branch out and see other films, for it was the most unusual I had seen up until coming to UNCW and being exposed to a whole new realm of films.
I always love to hear other people's stories about what film clicked and made them want to pursue film. I usually get a laugh when I tell people mine is The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but I have no shame.

UNCW has taught me a lot since I arrived four years ago. One of the main things being that what you're pretty set on being in life is a lie. I entered the film program thinking I would direct and that I would be on set doing all kinds of cool stuff. Truth be told, I hate it. I did not enjoy directing and I did not enjoy being on set. I learned that I definitely enjoy post production more that production itself. With that being said, I am actually really excited to see what this experimental class holds in store for me, mainly because I have never made an experimental film. Perhaps I will find a new calling upon taking this class. We shall see (:

  1. This is so helpful! I don't know if you know the work of Guy Maddin...but you are about to. A Bowie lover should find his work VERY interesting. :)
